A tragic incident in West Virginia has left a family and community in shock after a woman was shot and killed during what should have been a normal workday. The case has now led to serious criminal charges against a man connected to the victim.

What Happened in the Incident

The incident took place in Cross Lanes at a Walmart store located on Nitro Market Place.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Misty Rose Williams was working when she stepped out for a break around 9 a.m.

She went to her car in the parking lot but never returned to work, which raised concern among her co-workers.

Discovery in the Parking Lot

After noticing that Williams had been gone longer than expected, her colleagues went to check on her. They found her inside her car, unresponsive.

Authorities later confirmed that she had been shot in the chest. Emergency responders arrived, but she had already died from her injuries.

Surveillance and Investigation

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the area, which played a key role in the case.

The footage allegedly showed 54-year-old Eric Dewayne Richmond inside the store before the incident. He was later seen going outside around the same time Williams was on her break.

Authorities also believe he was seen entering and exiting her vehicle multiple times before leaving the scene. At one point, the vehicle reportedly moved forward and hit another parked car.

Arrest and Charges

Richmond, who shares children with Williams, was later brought in for questioning.

Police arrested him and charged him with first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bail at the South Central Regional Jail.

During a search of his home, officers reportedly found a 9 mm handgun, which may be linked to the case.

What Happens Next

Richmond is expected to appear in court for further legal proceedings. His next court date is scheduled for April 20.

The case will now move through the legal system, where evidence and testimonies will be reviewed.
