A strange and serious case from Florida has come into the spotlight after a woman allegedly gave confusing statements about her eyesight following a crash. The incident involved a hit-and-run and possible drunk driving, leaving multiple people injured and raising many questions about what really happened.
What Happened in the Crash
The incident took place on April 11 in Fort Lauderdale when police were called to a crash scene involving two vehicles. One of the cars reportedly flipped several times after the collision, making the situation quite dangerous.
According to reports, the car driven by Karen Barrios was involved in the crash. While police officers were busy helping the injured passengers from the other vehicle, Barrios allegedly left the scene without sharing her driving licence, insurance details, or offering any help.
What Police Observed
When officers later found Barrios, she reportedly said that she was not injured. However, she refused to take a breathalyser test, which is often used to check for alcohol in the system.
Officers noticed several signs that raised suspicion. They reported that she had glassy eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady while standing. They also mentioned a strong smell of alcohol, which suggested possible drunk driving.
Confusing Claims About Blindness
During questioning, Barrios allegedly made unusual statements about her eyesight. At first, she claimed that she was “blind in both eyes.” Later, she clarified that she had blindness in her retina and one eye but could still see.
She then reportedly added that she was colourblind. These changing statements created confusion and raised doubts about her condition and credibility.
Field Sobriety Test Results
Police conducted a field sobriety test to assess her condition. According to the report, Barrios had extreme difficulty following instructions. She needed repeated reminders to stay focused and struggled to maintain balance. At times, she stepped off the line and appeared unstable.
These observations further supported the officers’ suspicion that she may have been under the influence at the time of the crash.
Charges Filed Against Her
Following the investigation, Barrios was arrested and taken to Broward County Jail. She has been charged with multiple offences, including driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
The charges also include causing damage to property or injury to others while driving under the influence. After being booked, she later posted bond and was released.
Victims Plan Legal Action
The people injured in the crash have stated that they plan to press charges against Barrios. This means the case could become more serious as it moves forward in court.
