A peaceful evening at a park turned into a frightening experience for a group of children in Indiana after a woman allegedly threatened them with a gun. What should have been a normal day of fun quickly became a serious police case, raising concerns about safety in public spaces.
What Happened at the Park?
Children often visit parks to relax, play, and enjoy time with friends. On April 12, 2025, a group of kids in Columbia Park, Lafayette, were doing just that when things suddenly took a scary turn.
According to reports, a woman identified as Ashley Nicole Maxwell drove into the park around evening time. She allegedly took out a gun from her bag and began threatening the children. The kids, who were between 7 and 14 years old, were told that she would shoot them and even blow up the park.
One of the children was reportedly told that she would “light him up,” which made the situation even more terrifying. After making these threats, she left the park.
Police Quickly Track the Suspect
After the incident, police acted fast. They used the vehicle’s license plate number to identify and locate Maxwell within a short time.
During a traffic stop, officers found her in the car along with six children. While interacting with her, police reportedly noticed the smell of marijuana. When questioned, she admitted to having it on her.
She was then taken into custody and brought to jail, but the investigation did not stop there.
Search at the Residence
Police later went to Maxwell’s residence to continue their investigation. A man living there initially denied that there were any firearms in the house and did not allow officers to search.
However, authorities returned with proper action and carried out a search. What they found added more serious concerns to the case.
Weapons and Other Items Found
During the search, police reportedly discovered several items, including ammunition, a handgun, magazines, and other related materials. There were also mobile phones and other belongings linked to the case.
According to officials, Maxwell was not legally allowed to own a firearm due to her past criminal record. It was also reported that she tried to contact someone to remove the items before police arrived.
Multiple Charges Filed
As a result of the incident and the findings, Maxwell now faces several serious charges. These include unlawful possession of a firearm, intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness, and possession of marijuana, among others.
In total, she is facing 10 different charges related to the case.
