A concerning incident from West Virginia has raised serious questions about child safety and parental responsibility. A young child was found wandering alone outside, leading to the arrest of his father, who allegedly failed to supervise him.
What Happened in the Incident
According to local authorities in Saint Albans, police responded to a call on April 15 after a small child was seen walking alone in the Kanawha Terrace area.
The child was reportedly wearing only a diaper and had no adult supervision. A concerned resident noticed the situation and safely guided the child back to his home.
When no one answered the door, the resident contacted emergency services for help.
Police Response and Discovery
Officers arrived at the scene and tried multiple times to get a response from inside the house. When there was no answer, they entered the home to check on the situation.
Inside, they found 42-year-old Mark Blake Jr., the child’s father, asleep upstairs.
When questioned, he allegedly made a shocking statement, telling officers that watching children was not his responsibility.
Charges Filed Against the Father
Authorities have charged Mark Blake Jr. with child neglect creating risk of injury.
He has been taken into custody and is currently being held at the South Central Regional Jail. His bail has been set at $25,000 in cash.
Previous Incident Raises Concerns
Officials also revealed that Blake was already out on bond for a similar case that happened in August 2025. This raises serious concerns about repeated behaviour and the safety of the child.
Why This Case Is Serious
Leaving a young child alone, especially outside, can be extremely dangerous. Children at that age are unable to protect themselves or understand risks.
Some of the dangers include:
- Getting lost or injured
- Exposure to weather conditions
- Risk from strangers or traffic
This case highlights how important it is for parents and guardians to ensure constant supervision.
Role of the Community
In this situation, a concerned citizen played a key role in protecting the child. Their quick action helped prevent what could have been a much worse outcome.
This shows how community awareness can make a big difference in protecting vulnerable individuals.
