A tragic incident at a public park in North Carolina has left a community in shock after a planned fight between young individuals turned into a deadly shooting. The situation has raised serious concerns about youth violence and safety in public spaces.
What Happened at the Park
The shooting took place at Leinbach Park on Monday morning. According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, officers were first called around 9:52 a.m. for reports of a fight.
While police were on their way, they received additional information that gunshots had been fired and multiple people had been hit. When officers arrived, they found several individuals fleeing the scene.
Teen Victims and Injuries
Police confirmed that two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, died from gunshot wounds at the scene. One was found in the parking lot, while the other was located deeper inside the park.
In addition, five others were injured in the shooting. The victims include a 14-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl, an 18-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman. Their injuries range from minor to critical.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims due to their ages and ongoing investigation.
Investigation Details
At this stage, it is still unclear whether the initial fight involved the two teenagers who were killed or what exactly led to the violence.
Police say that some of the injured individuals may have also been involved in the shooting, but this is still being investigated. Detectives are working to understand the roles of everyone present during the incident.
