A complex and high-profile case from Louisiana continues to unfold, involving allegations of murder, fraud, and a large insurance scam. At the centre of the case is a man accused of killing a government informant who was helping authorities expose a major fraud network.

Leon “Chunky” Parker, 52, is facing multiple charges connected to both a murder and a large insurance fraud scheme in New Orleans. According to his lawyer, Parker is expected to plead guilty to some charges, but not the ones related to the killing of Cornelius Garrison III.

The Fraud Scheme Explained
The case is linked to a large insurance fraud operation known as Operation Sideswipe.
According to investigators, the scheme involved deliberately staging accidents with large trucks. Garrison reportedly played a role in arranging these crashes by filling cars with people and crashing them into 18-wheelers. After the crashes, the passengers were directed to lawyers who would file claims and pay Garrison for his involvement.
This scheme went on for years and led to the conviction of around 50 individuals.
Other People Involved
Several others are also linked to this case. Sean Alfortish, a former magistrate and disbarred lawyer, is accused of being involved in both the fraud scheme and Garrison’s murder.
Two attorneys, Jason Giles and Vanessa Motta, were recently found guilty for their roles in the fraud operation. Motta is currently in custody and awaiting sentencing, while Alfortish is also detained as he prepares for trial.
Details of the Alleged Murder Plot
A key witness in the case is Ryan “Red” Harris, who has already pleaded guilty for his role in the killing. He admitted to helping connect Parker and Alfortish and said they planned to kill Garrison.
According to Harris, he drove Parker to the location on the day of the murder. Parker allegedly wore a mask and gloves and later admitted to carrying out the shooting.
Harris also claimed that Parker was paid between $20,000 and $25,000 for the killing. After the incident, they reportedly tried to destroy evidence, including burning a car used during the crime.
