A major law enforcement operation in New Orleans has led to dozens of arrests and the seizure of illegal weapons and drugs. Authorities say the effort shows how teamwork between agencies can improve public safety and reduce crime in the city.
What Is Operation Golden Eagle?
New Orleans Police Department announced the results of Operation Golden Eagle on April 22, 2026. This is an annual operation that brings together local, state, and federal agencies to target crime.
The main goal of the operation is to reduce violent crime by removing illegal firearms and drugs from the streets. It also focuses on catching fugitives and disrupting criminal activity in neighbourhoods.
Key Results of the Operation
During the three-week operation from late March to mid-April, authorities reported several important outcomes.
A total of 32 felony arrests were made, along with 20 arrests of fugitives. Officers also seized 23 firearms and made 18 arrests related to illegal weapons.
In addition, 19 people were arrested for narcotics-related offences. Various drugs were seized, including marijuana, cocaine, fentanyl, Tapentadol, ecstasy, and Tramadol. The estimated value of the seized drugs was over $4,000.
Police also recovered four stolen vehicles and seized around $4,381 in cash. Along with this, 16 misdemeanor arrests and five property crime arrests were recorded.
Searches and Enforcement Actions
The operation also involved several enforcement activities. Officers carried out multiple searches and executed warrants to track down suspects and collect evidence.
A total of 27 vehicle searches were conducted, along with 10 arrest warrants executed. Eight search warrants were also carried out, and several residential searches were completed as part of the investigation.
Traffic Stops and Pursuits
Authorities made 137 traffic stops during the operation. Most of these were conducted by Louisiana State Police, while others were handled by specialised units within the New Orleans Police Department.
There were also seven foot pursuits and four vehicle pursuits reported during this period. These actions helped officers catch suspects trying to escape.
Strong Cooperation Between Agencies
Officials highlighted that the success of Operation Golden Eagle was due to strong coordination between different law enforcement agencies.
Federal Bureau of Investigation representatives said the shared effort helped reduce crime and improve safety. NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick also emphasised the importance of cooperation, noting that agencies worked closely together without conflict.
