What Happened on the Night of the Crash
The incident occurred on April 3 in Monterey County. According to investigators, Banuelos was driving his car at an extremely high speed on a residential road. Reports say he was travelling around 100 mph in a zone where the speed limit was just 25 mph.
While driving, he lost control of the vehicle, which then went off the road and crashed into a tree. The impact was so severe that the car caught fire almost immediately.

The crash resulted in the death of 16-year-old Edgar Jeremiah Banuelos-Gonzalez, who was inside the vehicle. Authorities stated that the teenager was unable to escape the burning car.
Two other children, aged 14 and 7, were also in the car. They survived the crash but suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
