A shocking domestic violence case has left a community in deep pain after a man allegedly stabbed his wife and adult daughter to death and seriously injured his son-in-law.
The horrifying incident ended when police officers shot the attacker at the scene. Authorities are now investigating what led to this tragic event.
Disturbing Incident Reported Through 911 Calls
According to reports by WTOP and WJLA, police received two emergency calls about the incident. One call was made by the injured son-in-law. He had been outside the house clearing snow when he heard loud noises and a disturbance inside the home.
Another 911 call came from a person in a nearby building who also heard a loud domestic-related argument and commotion.
When the son-in-law entered the house to check what was happening, he was met with a horrifying sight. Police described the situation as extremely violent. Authorities say the father-in-law, who was in his mid-50s, was attacking his own family members with a knife.
Family Members Attacked Inside the Home
Police say the attacker had already stabbed his adult daughter. He was then reportedly attacking his wife. When the son-in-law tried to intervene, the attacker turned on him and began stabbing him as well.
By the time officers reached the scene, the son-in-law was still being attacked. The responding officer immediately ordered the suspect to drop the weapon several times. However, the man refused to follow instructions.
As the situation became life-threatening, the officer opened fire to stop the attack.
Suspect Shot Dead by Police
After being shot, CPR was performed on the suspect. However, he was declared dead at the scene.
Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis described the crime scene as extremely bloody and disturbing. He stated that words could not fully describe the level of violence officers witnessed.
As per routine procedure, the officer who fired the fatal shot has been placed on modified duty while the investigation continues. Authorities confirmed that this is standard practice in such cases.
Police also said that body camera footage and 911 audio recordings will be released within 30 days.
Victims and Current Condition
The attacker’s wife and daughter were rushed to the hospital after the stabbing. Sadly, both women later died from their injuries.
The son-in-law survived but is currently in critical condition and receiving medical treatment.
There was also a one-year-old child present in the house at the time of the attack. Thankfully, the child was not physically harmed. The baby has now been placed under the care of child protective services to ensure safety.
Weapon Used in the Attack
Police described the weapon used as a 10-inch curved dagger that looked similar to a meat cleaver. The knife caused severe injuries to the victims.
No Prior Domestic Violence Reports
Investigators said that police had never been called to this residence before for domestic violence or any other complaints. Authorities are still trying to understand what may have led to such an extreme act.
Police Chief Davis stated that they do not yet know what kind of stress or problems the family may have been facing. However, he added that nothing could justify such a brutal attack.
