A tense late-night disturbance in Downtown Lafayette on April 25, 2024, resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Jai’Quan Pierre of Crowley, Louisiana. Pierre, who had been involved in a previous high-profile case, now faces charges related to a firearms incident near Festival International.
Incident in Downtown Lafayette
According to Lafayette Police, officers were on foot patrol in the 100 block of East Vermilion Street around 10:53 p.m. when they encountered a large crowd engaged in a verbal dispute. During the altercation, Pierre allegedly pulled a firearm from his waistband and pointed it toward the crowd, causing panic as people fled the area.
In response to what police described as a life-threatening situation, one officer discharged their service weapon. Thankfully, no one was injured. Pierre was arrested on the spot without further incident.
Charges Faced by Pierre
Pierre now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm, negligent carrying of a concealed handgun, and terrorizing. His arrest comes just after the conclusion of the Festival International events, which had attracted large crowds to the downtown area.
Connection to the Gabriella “Gabby” Sharp Case
Pierre’s name is familiar to many in Acadiana due to his previous arrest in connection with the death of 18-year-old Gabriella “Gabby” Sharp. In November 2025, Sharp, a senior at Acadiana High School, was found unresponsive at a convenience store on West Congress Street in the early hours of November 1. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time, Pierre was charged with video voyeurism in relation to the case, while another suspect faced a charge of sexual battery. However, authorities clarified that there was no evidence to suggest either suspect caused Sharp’s death. The cause was believed to be medical-related, pending further testing.
