The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a New Orleans man following an investigation by its Special Victim’s Unit (SVU).
Authorities say the case involves serious allegations connected to inappropriate online communication with a juvenile. The suspect has since been taken into custody and formally charged.
Investigation Began in February 2026
In February 2026, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit launched an investigation after receiving reports about a juvenile communicating inappropriately with an adult male believed to be 28 years old.
Detectives met with the victim and a family member to gather details. During the meeting, authorities were provided with documentation that reportedly showed evidence of the inappropriate communication. Investigators carefully reviewed the material as part of the ongoing case.
Suspect Identified Through Digital Evidence
As the investigation progressed, detectives identified the suspect as Joseph Olivier Ellis, 28, of New Orleans, Louisiana.
According to officials, investigators uncovered a significant amount of digital evidence that allegedly connected Ellis to the case. Based on the findings, detectives compiled the evidence and obtained arrest warrants.
The charges filed against Ellis include:
- Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile
- Computer Aided Solicitation of a Minor
After securing the warrants, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office shared the information with the U.S. Marshals Task Force to assist in locating the suspect.
Arrest Made in New Orleans
In the early morning hours of February 13, authorities confirmed that Ellis had been arrested in New Orleans by the U.S. Marshals Task Force.
Following the arrest, arrangements were made to transfer Ellis to Terrebonne Parish. The transfer process was completed on February 19.
Booking and Bond Details
Once transported, Ellis was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. According to officials, he was later released after posting a $150,000 bond set by local judges.
The investigation remains a reminder of the serious nature of online safety concerns involving minors. Law enforcement officials continue to stress the importance of reporting suspicious or inappropriate online behaviour to authorities immediately.
