A serious domestic violence case in Louisiana has led to multiple charges against a man after an incident that quickly turned dangerous. Police say the situation involved violence, a child, and a car chase that ended with injuries.
What Happened in Shreveport?
The incident took place in Shreveport, where officers from the Shreveport Police Department were first called to a major crash near Kings Highway and Fairfield Avenue on April 28.
When police reached the scene, they discovered that the crash was connected to a domestic violence situation reported earlier from a nearby location.
Details of the Domestic Incident
Authorities identified the accused as Jerad Lee Tyra, 35. According to police, the victim told investigators that the previous day she had gone to his home.
She alleged that during her visit, Tyra strangled her and bit her on the face, and this happened in front of four children. These claims became a key part of the investigation.
Situation Escalates the Next Day
Police say the situation worsened the following morning when the victim’s father arrived to pick her up. A fight reportedly broke out between Tyra and the father.
During the incident, Tyra allegedly left the house with a 6-month-old baby in his car. The victim and her father followed him in another vehicle in an attempt to stop him.
Dangerous Chase and Injury
The chase led them to the Kings Highway area. According to police, the victim’s father got out of the car and tried to stop Tyra as he attempted to leave with the baby.
In a risky move, the father climbed onto Tyra’s vehicle. However, police say Tyra continued driving, turning onto Fairfield Avenue. During this, the father fell off the car and suffered injuries.
He was later taken to the hospital, where he confirmed to police what had happened.
Arrest and Charges
Jerad Lee Tyra has now been arrested. He is facing serious charges, including domestic abuse battery by strangulation and four counts of domestic abuse battery with child endangerment.
These charges reflect the severity of the situation, especially because children were present during the incident.
Police Warning and Public Appeal
Authorities have used this case to highlight how quickly domestic violence situations can become dangerous, especially when emotions escalate and children are involved.
The Shreveport Police Department is urging anyone facing domestic violence to seek help immediately and report such incidents.
Why This Case Matters
This incident shows how domestic conflicts can turn into life-threatening situations in a short time. It also highlights the risks faced by family members trying to intervene.
The presence of children in such environments makes the situation even more serious, emphasising the need for timely support and intervention.
