A tragic shooting at a Texas house party on May 2 has left two teenagers dead and ten others injured. The Amarillo Police Department (APD) reported that the shooting took place at an apartment complex on South Coulter Street around 2 a.m. local time, after a party originally held at another location moved to the complex.
Details of the Shooting Incident
Investigators believe the violence began when several individuals were asked to leave the first location and followed other partygoers to the apartment complex. There, the suspects attempted to enter an apartment before opening fire with a rifle-style weapon.
The shooting led to chaos, with several individuals seen fleeing the area as dozens of gunshots rang out, captured in harrowing security camera footage shared by the police.
Victims and Injuries
The two victims who lost their lives were identified as 17-year-old Ezekiel Rudy Almazan and a 16-year-old boy whose name has not been released. At least 10 other people sustained injuries, including several gunshot wounds.
The Amarillo Police Department found a Glock 9mm handgun near the scene, and investigators believe multiple weapons were used during the attack, based on cartridge casings recovered nearby.
Suspects Still at Large
Authorities have identified two suspects, though their identities and motives remain unclear. The police believe the shooting was targeted, and the suspects had an affiliation with the party’s location, possibly knowing one of the victims. However, as of now, the suspects’ relationship to the victims is still unknown, and the motive for the attack has not been revealed.
Investigation and Appeal for Information
Amarillo Police Chief Thomas Hover condemned the violence, calling the incident “unacceptable.” Authorities are now asking the public for assistance in the ongoing investigation. Police are urging anyone who may have doorbell camera footage, security system footage, or information about unusual activity in the area to come forward.
“This investigation remains ongoing,” the police stated, with promises to release further details as they become available.
