Three teenagers in Wisconsin have been charged with felony murder and armed robbery in the fatal shooting of 35‑year‑old David Krause after he accepted a ride from them during a rainstorm. The shooting happened on the evening of April 14, 2026 in Milwaukee, according to local news reporting.
Man Killed After Accepting Ride From Teens
Krause was reportedly caught in a heavy rainstorm and took shelter at a gas station after celebrating 414 Day — a date celebrated by some as “April 14” (4/14). Realizing he left his car keys inside his girlfriend’s vehicle, he called her and told her he was “getting a ride from some kids,” according to a juvenile petition obtained by local ABC affiliate WISN.
Prosecutors said Krause got into a car with three teenagers, who drove about three blocks before surveillance footage captured him running out of the vehicle toward a nearby bar. Two of the teens reportedly chased after him, and a struggle broke out. During the altercation, one of the teens allegedly fired a gun, fatally wounding Krause.
After the shooting, the suspects returned to the car, which investigators allege had been stolen, and fled the scene.
Arrests and Juvenile Suspects
The three individuals charged in the case are juveniles, so their names and other identifying information have not been released due to legal protections.
One of the suspects is 14 years old, according to reporting by local NBC affiliate WTMJ. That teen was initially arrested but was inadvertently released from custody — a release later confirmed by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office. He was rearrested on April 27 and returned to custody. No details about the other two suspects’ arrests have been shared publicly.
Family Reacts to Tragedy
Before the arrests, Krause’s family spoke about the tragic loss with local CBS affiliate WDJT. His sister described her brother as someone who trusted people deeply, saying:
“My brother’s Achilles heel was that he blindly trusted people. He had so much faith in humanity, so much faith in the people and community in Milwaukee that he surrounded himself with, and that’s the reason why he’s not here today.”
Ongoing Legal Process
As felony murder and armed robbery charges move forward, further legal proceedings and disclosures will be limited by juvenile privacy rules. Authorities continue to investigate the case as it unfolds.
