A North Carolina community is reeling from the tragic loss of 16-year-old Jayden Livingston, who was senselessly gunned down while taking an early morning walk with his dog.
The shooting occurred just before 6 a.m. on May 2, 2026, and the investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officials unsure if it was a targeted attack. Jayden, a high school football player known for his positive attitude and sportsmanship, has left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
The Tragic Incident
According to a statement from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home in response to a request for EMS assistance. When they arrived, they found Jayden and his dog suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were declared dead at the scene, and the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr. expressed his shock and frustration over the tragedy, stating, “When a 16-year-old child and his pet can be gunned down in the quiet of the morning hours, it causes me to question our sense of morality.”
He referred to the shooter as a “monster” and vowed to use all available resources to bring them to justice. District Attorney Jim O’Neill also weighed in, condemning the violence and calling it a “sad example of senseless juvenile violence.”
A Beloved Teen
Jayden Livingston was a student at West Stokes High School, having enrolled in February 2026. Although his time at the school was brief, his impact on the students and staff was significant. The school district issued a statement expressing their commitment to providing support for those affected by his loss. Jayden had previously attended Walkertown High School, where he was a member of the football team for two seasons.
The Walkertown High School football team paid tribute to him, describing him as a “great teammate” and “a young man to be around.” They urged the community to “stop the violence” in honor of Jayden and to keep his family and friends in their prayers.
Tributes Pour In
Those who knew Jayden personally had nothing but positive things to say. Walkertown High School teacher Selina Galloway remembered him as a “sweet kid” who was respectful and intelligent.
“He couldn’t leave my classroom without giving me a hug… I will always remember that,” she said. His flag football coach, Shawn Thompson, spoke of Jayden’s drive and determination, calling him someone who always wanted to “get to the next step.”
Jayden’s family and friends are heartbroken over the senseless loss of such a bright young man with a promising future. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with funeral expenses, and the fundraiser’s description highlights Jayden’s “kind heart, contagious smile, and energy.” It reads, “No family should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child, especially in such a senseless way.”
Ongoing Investigation
As the investigation continues, authorities are still working to piece together the details of the shooting. The community, devastated by the loss of a young life, is rallying together to honor Jayden’s memory and call for justice.
