A Lafayette Parish man is facing serious charges following an alleged altercation that escalated into gunfire on Thursday afternoon. Cory Broussard, 35, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated criminal damage to property, and possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of certain felonies.

According to deputies, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 200 block of Sonnier Rd., where they responded to reports of shots fired following a verbal altercation. Deputies identified Broussard as the suspect, saying that he fired several rounds, which struck both the surrounding property and a vehicle at the residence.
Upon arrival, authorities initially believed Broussard was still inside the residence. However, deputies say he fled to a nearby location, where he was subsequently apprehended and arrested.
