A 37-year-old Georgia mother, Sherry Magby, is facing serious allegations after authorities say she left multiple young children alone in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, leading to the death of a 1-year-old child.
Children Found Alone in Filthy Home
Police in Douglasville responded to Magby’s home on March 28, 2026, where they discovered six children, all age 10 or younger, living in severe neglect. A 10-year-old child had been left in charge of younger siblings, including toddlers and an infant.
Officers reported a strong foul odor upon entering the residence and described the home as being in extreme disarray, with unsanitary conditions throughout.
Lack of Food and Disturbing Conditions
According to investigators, the children had little to no access to proper food. One of the most disturbing details in the case is that the 1-year-old child had reportedly been eating roaches and ants off the floor due to hunger.
The child later died, though authorities have not yet released further details about the exact cause.
Prior Concerns and Missed Warnings
Neighbors told authorities they had noticed unusual activity at the home before, including young children left outside late at night without adult supervision. Some now say they regret not reporting their concerns sooner.
