A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Richmond, Virginia, on April 17, 2026, when twin 17-month-old boys were found unresponsive in a bathtub. Despite emergency medical care, both boys, Ksyn and Kcye Dixon, tragically died. Their mother, 21-year-old Amaya Dixon, was arrested on charges of murder and child neglect in connection with their deaths.
More than a month later, Dixon’s family has spoken out, insisting that the deaths were a tragic accident and that she loved and cared deeply for her children.
Discovery of the Twins
According to court documents obtained by WTVR, Dixon’s 12-year-old sibling found the twins struggling in the bathtub. Dixon’s 17-year-old brother helped lift the boys out while the 12-year-old called 911.
The twins reportedly had special needs and could not hold their heads up. Prosecutors say Dixon left the children unattended for 15 minutes without notifying anyone, although she told police she left them for only four minutes to get milk.
Family Defends Dixon
Dixon’s family and defense attorney maintain that her actions were unintentional. William Smith, her lawyer, stated that Dixon made a terrible mistake and that the deaths were “obviously unintentional.”
The twins’ grandmother also spoke outside the courtroom, defending her daughter. “Amaya was a loving and caring mom. We loved those children unconditionally. We will forever hold them in our hearts,” she said, responding to the allegations from Richmond Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Joan Burroughs.
Court Proceedings and Bond
The judge set Dixon’s bond at $20,000. She reportedly sobbed in court and said, “Thank you, God.” As part of her release, Dixon is not allowed to serve in a supervisory role over minors. Her family felt some relief that she could mourn with them and attend to the funeral and burial arrangements for her sons.
Upcoming Court Dates and Financial Charges
Dixon is scheduled to appear in Chesterfield County court in August 2026 for financial crimes, including credit card theft, grand larceny, and fraud-related charges under $1,000, according to WRIC. A court date for her murder and child abuse charges has not yet been set.
