A shocking case from Louisiana has raised concerns about rising juvenile crime after a 13-year-old boy was linked to multiple vehicle break-ins in a short span of time. What started as a suspicious activity report quickly uncovered a series of crimes that had affected many people in the area.
What Happened in the Incident
According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person in Reserve during the early hours of the morning.
The incident took place around 12:35 a.m. in the 500 block of West 10th Street. When officers arrived, they noticed a vehicle with its hazard lights on, which raised suspicion.
Soon after, deputies saw a 13-year-old boy walking out of a business driveway. He was stopped and detained for questioning.
Discovery During Investigation
While speaking with officers, the teen admitted that he had a gun in his pocket. Investigators later believed that the weapon had been taken during an earlier vehicle break-in.
When deputies checked the nearby business, they found clear signs of damage. A vehicle at the location had a shattered driver’s side window, and its steering column and ignition panel had been broken.
Authorities estimated that the damage to the vehicle was around $2,700.
Link to Multiple Car Break-Ins
As the investigation continued, officers connected the boy to a series of similar crimes in the area. Officials said he was linked to 11 vehicle burglaries reported in Reserve over the past two weeks.
These incidents had already caused concern among local residents, and the arrest helped explain the pattern of break-ins.
Charges Filed Against the Teen
The 13-year-old was taken into custody and faces multiple serious charges. These include attempted theft of a motor vehicle, illegal possession of a handgun, criminal trespassing, and violation of the juvenile curfew.
In addition, he has been charged with 12 counts of simple burglary and 12 counts of simple criminal damage to property.
Since he is a minor, authorities have not released his name.
