30-years-old man stabbed coworker and roommate to death because he allegedly felt “micromanaged”

A California man, Ramy Fahim, has pleaded guilty to the brutal stabbing deaths of his coworker Griffin Cuomo and Cuomo’s roommate Jonathan Bahm. Fahim, 30, admitted to the murders after previously pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.

However, he was later determined to be sane and now faces two life sentences without the possibility of parole, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

A Deteriorating Relationship and Growing Tensions at Work

Fahim and Cuomo initially had a friendly relationship, occasionally texting each other outside of work. However, by early 2022, their relationship had soured, with Fahim growing frustrated with Cuomo, whom he felt “micromanaged” him and interrupted his lunch breaks.

According to coworkers, the tension escalated to the point where Fahim began to yell at Cuomo, creating an uncomfortable and hostile work environment at Pence Wealth Management in Newport Beach.

Investigators noted that Cuomo had become so fearful of Fahim that he began carrying a knife for protection, just a month before the murders.

The Stabbing Attack

The murders took place in the early hours of April 18, 2022, when Fahim ambushed Cuomo at his Anaheim apartment. Fahim had meticulously planned the attack by scouting the building and waiting on the rooftop deck for several hours.

Armed with a black trash bag filled with cleaning supplies, Fahim made his way to the sixth floor and waited outside Cuomo’s apartment. When Cuomo opened the door to leave for work, Fahim attacked without warning, stabbing him in the throat.

Fahim then forced his way into the apartment, where he continued to stab Cuomo an additional 50 times. Bahm, who witnessed the attack, fled into the bathroom and called 911, but Fahim followed and forced his way inside. When Bahm attempted to escape through the front door, Fahim caught up to him and fatally stabbed him more than 30 times.

Arrest and Investigation

When Anaheim police arrived on the scene, they found Fahim crawling into the hallway, bleeding from a thigh wound. Police recovered a bloody knife from Fahim’s sweatshirt pocket and uncovered two shovels, tarps, rope, and another knife in his vehicle.

Fahim later admitted to killing both victims but claimed that his schizophrenia diagnosis played a role in his actions. He stated that voices had been instructing him to carry out both good and bad deeds, including murder.

Fahim had even planned to decapitate Cuomo, bury his head, and dispose of his body in the trash. He said the murder of Bahm was an act of panic and necessity due to the voices.

Statements from Authorities

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer condemned the murders, calling them a “callous” act that ended the lives of two young men just beginning to make their way in the world. “These young men were just starting to live out their dreams and find their places in the world.

But an intruder who stalked them and then slashed them to death in their own home interrupted those dreams,” Spitzer said in a 2022 statement.

Fahim is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13.
