The  Riverside Academy Lady Rebels basketball team moved on to the second round of the Select Division IV playoffs after a thrilling 42-31 win against Vermillion Catholic on Thursday, Feb. 16 at home.

Myracle Revon led the team with 25 points, Alainah Felton scored 9, Daja Mixon scored 5, and Corrine Simon scored 3. Other honorable mentions were Bailey Melancon, Emme Stowe, Kasey Bourgeois and Imari Cooper.

“As a team I feel like we came out mentally focused and knew our assignments, which was to start fast and know who was the scorers for the other team which was in the scouting report. We forced turnovers which turned into points for us,” Coach Darrion Cook said. “In the second half we came out flat lazy and didn’t keep our foot on the gas, which made it a tougher game. By the start of the fourth, we figured it out and started to pull away again by doing the things we did in the first half.”

The No. 15 Lady Rebels will play in the second round against No. 2 Northwood- Lena on Monday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. It is the team’s first time in the second round since 2018 when they reached the semifinals. The Rebels did not make the playoffs in 2022.

“My expectations for the 2nd round is the same as the last game, must be mentally focused, know our assignments and start our fast,” Cook said. “The girls know this game is important.”
