Riverside Academy had a banner year in sports during the 2022-2023 school year, winning district championships in five sports, two individual state championships and one team state championship. All teams had extended seasons by making the playoffs. On Tuesday, May 9, all the teams came together in the gym for the annual Athletic Banquet.

Seniors Luke Hymel and Camryn Loving were named Male and Female Athletes of the Year. Hymel played football, soccer and baseball, earning letters in all three sports. He was All-District, All-Metro and All-State honorable mention in football and All-District in soccer. He was the District MVP in baseball.

Loving played volleyball, soccer, softball and was on the swim team, earning All-Academic honors in all four sports. She was the Offensive MVP in volleyball and in softball and finished third in the 50 free at the State Swim Meet.

Elijah “Bill” Davis earned the Henry Donaldson Mr. Rebel Award, given to the top senior football player. Davis, who has committed to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, rushed for more than 2,000 yards and 36 touchdowns in 2022.

Also honored was Class 1A indoor and outdoor shot put state champion Scott White and Division IV state golf runner-up Cole Haase.

Each team was recognized and received certificates for lettering in their respective sports. Coaches also recognized individual athletes for distinction.

The night was capped with a slide show honoring the Division IV state champion softball team.

At the end of the evening, Coach Marty Luquet announced that football coach Lee Roussel would be the new Athletic Director going forward. Luquet will remain as head baseball coach.
