The Ottawa Senators picked up an exciting 7–4 win over the Seattle Kraken, but the victory came with a major concern after star defenseman Jake Sanderson left the game with an apparent shoulder injury. While the Senators’ offense delivered a strong performance, the status of one of their most important players now becomes the biggest storyline following the game.
Sanderson Injury Casts Shadow Over Win
The biggest moment of concern came midway through the second period when Jake Sanderson took a hit from Seattle’s Brandon Montour.
After the collision, Sanderson left the ice holding his right shoulder and did not return to the game. The team has not yet released an official diagnosis, and his status will likely depend on further evaluation.
Given Sanderson’s importance to Ottawa’s blue line, the injury could be a significant issue if it turns out to be serious.
Senators Power Past Kraken 7–4
Despite the injury scare, Ottawa’s offense produced one of its strongest performances of the season, scoring seven goals in the victory.
The Senators controlled much of the game offensively and were able to pull away late, sealing the win against Seattle.
Warren Foegele Scores in Senators Debut
One of the highlights of the night came from newcomer Warren Foegele.
Recently acquired from the Los Angeles Kings, Foegele scored his first goal as a Senator just days after joining the team.
He skated on the fourth line alongside Lars Eller and Fabian Zetterlund and logged just under 12 minutes of ice time, all at even strength.
Foegele made an immediate impact by:
- Scoring Ottawa’s fifth goal
- Applying strong forechecking pressure
- Playing a responsible two-way game
His debut performance suggests he could be a valuable depth addition for Ottawa moving forward.
Shane Pinto Delivers Three-Point Performance
Another standout performer was center Shane Pinto, who had one of his best games of the season.
Pinto finished with:
- 1 goal
- 2 assists
- 4 penalty minutes
- 17:26 of ice time
The three-point outing marked Pinto’s first multi-point game since January 1 and his first three-point game since the season opener.
Known primarily for his defensive responsibilities, Pinto often faces tough matchups and plays a key role on the penalty kill. Ottawa will welcome more offensive production like this as the season continues.
Stützle Continues Scoring Streak
Tim Stützle also played a major role in the win.
The young star extended his point streak to 12 games and scored his 30th goal of the season, marking the second time in his career he has reached that milestone.
With plenty of games remaining, Stützle now appears to have a realistic shot at reaching the 40-goal mark this season.
Physical Play and Late Game Drama
Defenseman Tyler Kleven added some physical energy to the game.
Shortly after Sanderson exited with his injury, Kleven delivered a heavy hit on Seattle forward Jordan Eberle. Kleven also contributed offensively by scoring a goal.
However, his night ended on a negative note.
Late in the game, Kleven received a five-minute major and game misconduct for a cross-check on Jared McCann.
The incident could potentially draw attention from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, raising the possibility of a suspension.
Senators Await Sanderson Update
While the Senators celebrated an impressive offensive performance and an important win, the focus now shifts to Jake Sanderson’s health.
If the injury is serious, Ottawa could face a significant challenge replacing one of its top defensemen.
For now, the team and its fans will be waiting for an official update.
