On March 21, 2026, a 13-year-old boy was at a 99 Restaurant in Charlestown with friends when he went to use the bathroom alone. There, he encountered 34-year-old Ronald Johns, who reportedly approached the teen multiple times, offering him a box of Gushers candy.
The boy initially refused, but Johns continued to press him, eventually causing the teen to feel uncomfortable and “forced” to take the candy. According to the boy, Johns was blocking his exit, making it difficult to leave the restroom.
After the encounter, Johns followed the group of boys as they left the restroom and walked toward a nearby playground, despite the kids repeatedly asking him to leave them alone.

The situation escalated when one of the boys’ parents learned about the encounter and contacted the police. The parent’s quick action prompted an investigation into Johns’ behavior and history.
