A tragic case from London has raised serious concerns about safety in short-term rentals. What started as a normal Airbnb booking ended in a shocking crime, leaving a young woman dead and a teenager facing murder charges years later.
Airbnb Stay Turns Fatal
A 27-year-old woman, Kamonnan Thiamphanit, who was also known as Angela, was found dead in her home in Westminster, London, in 2024. She had been hosting guests through Airbnb as part of her work in hospitality.
Police later confirmed that she had suffered multiple stab wounds. The scene was described as extremely violent, which deeply disturbed the local community.
Teenager Charged After Extradition
An 18-year-old, Enzo Bettamio, has now been charged with her murder. At the time of the incident, he was just 16 years old. Authorities had to extradite him from the United Arab Emirates, which is why the case took time to move forward.
The investigation involved efforts by the Metropolitan Police and legal teams handling international extradition.
Timeline of the Incident
Bettamio had booked a stay at Angela’s home near Marble Arch in London. He arrived on April 5, 2024, after travelling from Los Angeles.
On the night of the incident, Angela was spending time with friends. In the early hours of April 6, she suddenly left them, saying she had an emergency at home. That was the last time she was seen alive.
She reached her home around 4:24 a.m. Later that day, the suspect reportedly left for the airport and travelled to Dubai. Angela was reported missing by her friends two days later, and police later discovered her body at her residence.
What Neighbours Reported
People living nearby in the Bayswater area said they heard loud noises, including screams and music, on the night of the incident. The area is usually busy and popular with tourists, which made the incident even more shocking for residents.
Neighbours said they had never seen anything like this before and that the crime left many people feeling unsafe in their own neighbourhood.
Property and Location Details
The home where the incident happened was not an ordinary property. It was reportedly a former embassy building, making it a high-value residence. Despite being in a busy and well-known area, the crime still took place, raising concerns about guest verification and safety in short-term rentals.
What Happens Next
Bettamio is expected to appear in court again for a plea hearing scheduled for July 14. The legal process will continue as authorities work towards justice in the case.
