The body of a 21-year-old farm employee who was swept away while fishing in the Tangipahoa River has been recovered after a multi-day search effort.

Body of Missing Fisherman Recovered from Tangipahoa River

Marco Luis Martinez Antonio, a 21-year-old from Mexico, had been fishing along the Tangipahoa River near Bardwell Road in the Robert area on Wednesday afternoon when he was swept into the water. Witnesses reported seeing him walk a few feet into the river before the strong current pulled him under.

Search Efforts

Following the incident, a multi-agency search effort was launched. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO), the Ponchatoula Volunteer Fire Department, and other local agencies, including the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and several fire departments, participated in the search.

Specialized teams, such as the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office cadaver dog team and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, joined the effort.

The recovery was completed around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 24.

Community and Official Response

TPSO expressed gratitude to all law enforcement and rescue agencies involved, as well as to the community for their support during this difficult time. “Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones,” a statement read, and they asked the public to keep all those affected by the tragedy in their prayers.
