A heartbreaking drowning incident in Florida has left a young child dead and her mother facing criminal charges. Authorities say the tragedy happened during a pool party and could have been completely prevented with proper supervision. The incident has once again raised serious concerns about child safety around swimming pools, especially when alcohol is involved.
Police say 4-year-old girl drowned at an apartment complex pool while several adults were nearby. Investigators claim the child, who reportedly could not swim, was left unattended for several minutes before anyone noticed she was underwater.
Police Responded Quickly to Emergency Call
According to the Bradenton Police Department, emergency dispatchers received a call around 9:10 p.m. on May 9, 2026, reporting a child drowning at the Kendall Ridge Apartment Complex in Florida.
Police officers arrived at the scene within three minutes and immediately began performing CPR on the unresponsive child.
Emergency medical crews rushed the young girl to a nearby hospital, but doctors later pronounced her dead.
Following the tragic incident, investigators began speaking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from the pool area to determine exactly what happened before the drowning.
Mother’s Statement Allegedly Did Not Match Surveillance Video
Authorities identified the child’s mother as Rosette Pierrecius.
According to an arrest report, Pierrecius allegedly told investigators she briefly left the pool area to use the bathroom and believed her daughter was being watched by older children nearby.
The mother reportedly claimed she asked two children between the ages of 8 and 10 to supervise the little girl while she stepped away.
However, police say surveillance footage showed something very different.
Investigators reportedly reviewed video that showed Pierrecius walking away from the pool area without ever speaking to the older children she claimed were watching her daughter.
The footage also reportedly showed the 4-year-old entering the pool using the steps while several adults remained nearby.
Child Was Underwater for Several Minutes
According to investigators, the little girl did not know how to swim.
Police said surveillance video showed the child entering the pool at approximately 8:55 p.m. Authorities claim the mother was distracted by her phone and failed to notice her daughter sink underwater.
Officials stated it took around nine minutes before anyone realized the child was drowning.
By the time emergency responders arrived, the situation had already become critical.
The tragic details of the case have shocked many people, especially because investigators believe the drowning could have been prevented with closer supervision.
Police Say Neglect Played a Role
Bradenton Police Department spokesperson Meredith Censullo said the child’s death should never have happened.
According to investigators, the gathering was mainly an adult party rather than a child-friendly event.
Authorities also stated that alcohol was involved during the gathering. Reports claim Pierrecius admitted to drinking six beers at the party before the drowning occurred.
A breathalyzer test administered several hours later reportedly showed her blood alcohol level was 0.124.
Police say the case goes beyond a simple accidental drowning and involves serious neglect.
Pierrecius now faces a charge of child neglect resulting in great bodily injury.
Pool Safety Concerns Raised After Tragedy
The heartbreaking incident has renewed discussions about water safety and the importance of constant supervision when children are near pools.
Safety experts often warn that drowning can happen silently and within seconds, especially for young children who cannot swim.
Authorities continue to remind parents that children should never be left unattended around water, even for a short period of time.
