A couple from Michigan, Pierson and Karliona Davis, have been charged with murder following the tragic death of their 21-month-old son and the alleged abuse of their 4-year-old son.

The couple was arraigned on March 17, 2026, facing one count of open murder and two counts of child abuse in connection with the deaths and neglect of their children. The incident took place in August 2024.

What Happened to Vincent Davis?

On August 12, 2024, Karliona Davis called the police to report that her 21-month-old son, Vincent Davis, was unresponsive in his crib. When dispatchers instructed her to begin CPR, she allegedly said that the child was “beyond help.” Despite the attempts of first responders, Vincent was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, Vincent Davis appeared severely undernourished, with visible ribs and tight skin stretched over his skull. He also had a bruise the size of an orange on his groin area.

Condition of the Home and the 4-Year-Old Child

Upon investigation, authorities found the Davis family home to be unhygienic and unsafe for children. There were animal feces and rotting food on the floor. The room of the 4-year-old child was described as filthy, with feces on the walls and floors, blood stains, and very few toys.

When officers found the 4-year-old, he was weak, had sunken eyes, and couldn’t stand. The child began crying uncontrollably when picked up by officers. He was later found to be underweight and nonverbal.

Cause of Death and Neglect

An autopsy confirmed that Vincent Davis’ cause of death was caregiver neglect, and his death was ruled a homicide. Investigators discovered messages on Pierson Davis’ devices that mentioned Vincent being found with no heartbeat and pieces of his memory foam mattress in his mouth.

Karliona Davis, in her interview with investigators, revealed that both children were allowed outside of their rooms for only one or two hours a day and that Vincent had not seen a doctor since he was two months old.

What Happened to the 4-Year-Old?

The 4-year-old child was taken to a pediatric intensive care unit, where he appeared calm and content when held by nurses, but would cry when his parents tried to hold him. Hospital staff noted that the child weighed only 24 pounds, was “grossly weak,” and had clearly been chronically neglected.

The Parents’ Arrest and Charges

Both Pierson and Karliona Davis are in custody. Karliona Davis has been charged with murder and child abuse, with a bond set at $20 million. Pierson Davis faces the same charges, with a bond set at $10 million.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for March 31, 2026.
