A Covington man has been arrested after authorities say he shot and killed his own brother during an early morning argument at their shared home in St. Tammany Parish.
Investigators say the suspect later admitted to the shooting after deputies responded to emergency calls from both the accused man and the victim’s daughter.
Covington Man Arrested in Brother’s Death
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Frank Jenkins, 50.
According to investigators, Jenkins was arrested early Saturday morning and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.
He now faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his brother, William Jenkins, 47.
Authorities say both men lived together at a residence along Louisiana Highway 1081 near Covington.
Argument Allegedly Led to Deadly Shooting
Investigators said the shooting happened shortly before 1 a.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, Frank Jenkins and his brother became involved in a fight inside the home before the situation turned violent.
Authorities allege that Frank Jenkins shot William Jenkins once during the confrontation.
Emergency responders arrived at the residence after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting the shooting.
Victim’s Daughter Called 911
Officials said two separate emergency calls were made around the time of the incident.
One call reportedly came from Frank Jenkins himself.
The second 911 call came from the victim’s daughter, who allegedly told dispatchers that her uncle had shot her father.
Deputies responded to the home and discovered William Jenkins dead at the scene.
Suspect Allegedly Admitted to Shooting
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Frank Jenkins allegedly admitted to killing his brother during the investigation.
Authorities have not yet released additional information about what may have caused the fight between the two men.
Investigators continue examining evidence connected to the case.
