A 23-year-old man is in custody after police say an argument with his girlfriend escalated into a violent domestic incident in Brevard County.

Argument Leads to Alleged Assault

According to reports from WESH, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call where dispatchers could hear a woman screaming in the background. Authorities identified the suspect as Jontrai Stephens.

Investigators say the dispute began over something minor—a phone charger—but quickly turned physical. Stephens allegedly battered the victim and broke her television during the altercation.

Escalation Involving Hot Food and Vehicle

Police say Stephens then allegedly threw a hot pan of steak and potatoes at the woman. When he took her car keys, she attempted to stop him from leaving.

According to ClickOrlando, the victim climbed onto the trunk of the vehicle. Investigators allege Stephens drove erratically, stopping and starting abruptly until she was thrown from the car. Authorities said his actions caused serious injuries and could result in permanent disfigurement.

Arrest and Charges

Deputies later located both the suspect and the vehicle nearby. Stephens was taken into custody and is now facing charges including aggravated battery, aggravated assault with domestic violence and grand theft of a motor vehicle. He is currently being held without bond.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities continue to investigate the case as the victim recovers from her injuries.
