The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal (SFM) is investigating a deadly residential fire in Des Allemands that claimed the life of a 43-year-old man on Thursday, March 19. Fire crews from the Des Allemands Fire Department responded to the blaze around 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of JB Green Road.

Fire Details

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders found that the fire had started in the living room of the mobile home. Despite efforts to manage the situation, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with SFM officials continuing their work to determine the origin. Preliminary findings suggest the fire began in the living room, but no conclusions have been made yet regarding the exact cause.

Importance of Smoke Detectors

Officials at the scene noted that the mobile home did not have a working smoke alarm. In light of this tragedy, fire officials are emphasizing the importance of having properly installed smoke detectors in all homes.

“Every second counts in a fire,” said Chief Bryan J. Adas, principal assistant for the Department of Public Safety. “Working smoke alarms can mean the difference between life and death. This devastating loss is a reminder that no home should be without one.”
