A serious domestic incident in Louisiana has raised concerns about safety after a man was accused of threatening a woman with a firearm while a young child was present. The situation quickly escalated, putting multiple lives at risk.
What Happened in Shreveport
According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance involving a weapon on Wednesday.
The incident began when a woman went to Cherokee Park to pick up Darren Jett, whom she believed was intoxicated. An argument started while they were still inside the vehicle and continued after she drove him to a residence on Murvon Street.
Threat With a Firearm
Police say that once they arrived at the location, the woman asked Jett to leave the car and even placed his belongings outside. However, he refused to get out.
Authorities allege that Jett then picked up a handgun and threatened to shoot her while still sitting inside the vehicle. This created a dangerous situation, especially since a child was present.
Child Put in Danger
During the confrontation, the woman’s 4-year-old son got out of the vehicle and ran across the street. Police said the child was nearly hit by a passing vehicle, adding another level of risk to the situation.
A witness reported hearing gunshots and seeing the child running shortly afterward, which caused alarm in the neighbourhood.
Gunshots and Evidence
Investigators say the suspect fired two rounds into the air during the incident. Officers later recovered a spent shell casing from the scene, which supports the witness statements.
Even though no one was physically injured, the use of a firearm in such a situation is considered extremely serious.
Arrest and Charges
Police were able to locate Darren Jett and take him into custody. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm, domestic abuse involving child endangerment, resisting an officer, and illegal use of a weapon.
These charges reflect the seriousness of the incident and the risk posed to both the woman and the child.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case. They have also asked anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
