A Metairie man has been arrested after allegedly stealing over $3,000 worth of tools from a Home Depot in LaPlace, Louisiana, and attempting to steal more. Matthew Granat, 43, faces multiple charges, including theft and drug possession, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Theft at Home Depot

On April 26, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person at the Home Depot in LaPlace around 11:45 a.m. A store employee informed law enforcement that Granat had stolen more than $3,700 worth of tools from the store. Deputies later apprehended Granat, who was found to be in possession of additional stolen items.

Additional Charges and Drug Possession

Granat was arrested and charged with three counts of felony theft, misdemeanor theft, resisting an officer, and taking contraband to/from penal institutions. Authorities also found drugs and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

Granat faces further charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (CDS) and possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia.

Bond Set at $46,000

Granat is being held in the St. John the Baptist Parish Jail with a $46,000 bond.
