Police in Hammond have arrested Thomas Gainey after he allegedly led officers on a high-speed chase across parish lines.

What Happened

According to the Hammond Police Department, an officer attempted to stop Gainey, 29, after he was seen driving around 70 mph in a 45 mph zone. Instead of pulling over, he allegedly continued riding and crossed into Livingston Parish.

Chase Across Parishes

Once the pursuit moved into another jurisdiction, the Albany Police Department joined the chase. Authorities say Gainey reached speeds exceeding 90 mph before the pursuit ended on Interstate 55 southbound.

Charges Filed

After being taken into custody, Gainey was booked on multiple charges, including speeding, felony flight, not having a motorcycle endorsement, an expired license plate, lack of insurance, and failure to register the vehicle.

What It Means

High-speed chases like this can be dangerous for both officers and the public, and fleeing from police often leads to more serious charges beyond the initial traffic violation.
