Multiple law enforcement agencies gathered Friday morning (May 8) to discuss two cases connected to the Cedar Grove mass shooting and suspect Shamar Elkins.
Officials including U.S. Attorney Zachary Keller for the Western District of Louisiana, FBI Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson, and other federal, state, and local partners provided updates on the ongoing investigations into related suspects Charles Ford and Michael Mayence.
Charles Ford Charged in Connection With Firearm Used in Shooting
On April 21, Charles Ford was arrested and charged for his alleged role in providing the firearm used by Shamar Elkins during the mass shooting on April 19. That tragic attack left eight children dead and two women injured.
On May 7, a grand jury returned an indictment charging Ford with:
- Being a felon in possession of a firearm
- Making false statements to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents regarding how Elkins obtained the weapon
Prosecutors allege Ford knowingly gave or allowed Elkins to have the gun used in the attack and then misled federal investigators during their inquiry.
Mayence Case Also Under Investigation
Officials also mentioned ongoing work related to Michael Mayence, another person of interest in connection with the Cedar Grove shooting investigation. Details about Mayence’s charges or status have not yet been publicly released.
Collaborative Law Enforcement Effort
The coordinated briefing highlights how multiple agencies — including federal, state, and local law enforcement — are working together to pursue justice in the wake of the mass shooting. Investigators continue to follow leads and pursue additional charges as evidence develops in both the Ford and Mayence cases.
Officials did not provide further updates on court dates or Arraignments for Ford or Mayence during the briefing.
