A 34-year-old man with an extensive criminal history has been arrested and charged after allegedly forcing a 13-year-old boy to eat candy in a restaurant bathroom. Ronald Johns, who has been linked to multiple prior criminal offenses, was taken into custody in connection with the March 21, 2026, incident. He now faces serious charges, including kidnapping and accosting or annoying another person.
The Disturbing Incident
The troubling event occurred in a restaurant restroom, where Johns, who was reportedly shirtless, approached the 13-year-old boy. According to a police report obtained by WFXT, Johns was holding a box of Gushers candy and repeatedly asked the child to eat some.
The boy initially refused, but Johns allegedly stood in front of the door, blocking the child’s exit, and insisted that he eat the candy. Feeling intimidated and afraid, the boy eventually complied and ate a piece of candy.
Afterward, the boy quickly left the restaurant and walked to a nearby playground with a group of friends, about a 10-minute walk away. However, Johns reportedly followed the children to the playground and continued to engage with them despite being asked to leave. One of the children’s parents eventually alerted authorities about the incident.
Investigation and Arrest
After the police were notified, they conducted an investigation. The child who had eaten the candy was taken to the hospital for a drug test, which came back negative, confirming that no harmful substances were involved.
When officers spoke to Johns, he reportedly denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the children had been bothering him. Johns allegedly stated, “I didn’t touch nobody or nothing. I don’t have no drugs or no weapons. I didn’t do anything bad, bro, I swear.”
However, his actions in the restaurant and his subsequent behavior toward the children raised significant concerns, leading to his arrest. Johns, who is currently homeless, was placed under a Section 12 psychiatric hold, a legal measure for individuals who may pose a danger to themselves or others due to mental illness.
Criminal History and Previous Charges
Johns’ criminal record spans several states and includes charges for sexual abuse, forcible touching, public indecency, and assault and battery. His most recent charge occurred on March 12, 2026, just days before the alleged incident at the restaurant.
Given his criminal history, authorities are taking the matter seriously, with Johns being arraigned on charges of kidnapping and accosting or annoying another person. During his arraignment on April 15, 2026, bail was set at $1,500, and he is scheduled to return to court on May 13, 2026.
Public Safety Concerns
This incident has raised alarms about public safety, particularly concerning the safety of children. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information regarding Johns or similar incidents to come forward. The case highlights the importance of vigilance in public spaces and the need for swift legal action when there is a risk to children.
As the case continues, the community remains on edge, and parents are reminded to be cautious in public settings, especially when their children are involved in unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations.
