Two Texas teenagers have been charged with violent robberies after allegedly luring victims through online dating apps. The incidents have left local authorities and residents shocked.
Arrests and Charges
Alyssa Canul, 17, was arrested on Wednesday, May 27, and charged with two counts of aggravated robbery. She may also face a charge of tampering with physical evidence.
Her boyfriend, Joseph Anthony Aguilar Campos, 18, was arrested the previous day on similar charges of aggravated robbery. Both are being held at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center in San Antonio, with Canul’s bond set at $250,000 and Aguilar Campos’ bond at $300,000.
The Robbery Incidents
The crimes took place on Monday, May 25, according to public arrest records.
- First Incident: The victim was allegedly pistol-whipped after being lured by Canul through a dating app to meet her at a park bench. Aguilar Campos then allegedly assaulted and robbed the victim.
- Second Incident: A 15-year-old boy was shot four times but survived. Police said Canul lured him to the Villa Mesa apartments, where Aguilar Campos jumped from hiding and fired at the teen. The victim escaped to a nearby coffee shop, where bystanders called 911. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
Evidence and Investigation
Police obtained a recorded phone call between Canul and Aguilar Campos, in which Canul allegedly admitted to disposing of the weapon used in the robberies.
Authorities are investigating the incidents further to determine if additional victims are involved.
