A 16-year-old boy was shot Saturday night while hanging out with friends in Algiers, New Orleans, police said.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) said officers responded around 9:34 p.m. to the intersection of Bennett Street and Berkley Drive.

Investigators reported that the teen was shot after another member of the group reportedly acted “erratically,” pulled out a gun, and racked the slide, causing the weapon to fire.

Victim Taken to Hospital

The 16-year-old was transported to a local hospital. Authorities have not released further details about his condition.

Suspect Still at Large

The suspect fled the scene and had not been arrested as of Sunday afternoon.
