A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken a Louisiana community after a 3-year-old boy died following a drowning incident at a private residence in Prairieville. Authorities say the child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at the home of his babysitter, leading to an emergency response and desperate rescue efforts.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies responded to the incident on Roy Rogers Road during the afternoon hours after receiving a 911 call about a child found unconscious in a pool.
Emergency Crews Responded to Drowning Call
According to officials, deputies were dispatched to the home around 3:50 p.m. after emergency services received reports of a child drowning.
When officers arrived at the residence, family members were already performing CPR on the young boy in an attempt to save his life. Deputies and first responders quickly took over lifesaving efforts while waiting for emergency medical teams to arrive.
Authorities said the child remained in critical condition despite continuous CPR and emergency treatment at the scene.
Boy Airlifted to Children’s Hospital
Because of the seriousness of the situation, the child was airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital for urgent medical care.
Doctors continued trying to save the boy after he arrived at the hospital. Sadly, officials later confirmed that the child died from his injuries.
The sheriff’s office has not publicly released the identity of the child or additional details about the family.
Investigation Into Drowning Is Ongoing
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Unit has opened an investigation into the drowning incident.
Investigators are currently working to determine exactly how the child gained access to the swimming pool and the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
