Police temporarily closed several blocks in the Hollygrove area to investigate the shooting. Residents reported hearing between 10 and 20 loud gunshots around 3:30 p.m., and officers arrived shortly thereafter. Context on Crime in New Orleans
The shooting comes amid a broader context of declining violence in New Orleans. According to an April report from NOPD, the city recorded 20 murders and/or non-negligent homicides in the first quarter of 2026.
This represents seven fewer killings than the same period in 2025, 20 fewer than 2024, and 41 fewer than in the first quarter of 2023, highlighting a record-breaking drop in homicides.
Authorities continue to investigate the Hollygrove shooting as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety in the area.
