A deeply disturbing case from Texas has shocked many, after police revealed details of a tragic incident involving a very young child. The case highlights the serious dangers of losing control in moments of stress, especially when caring for infants.
What Happened in the Case
According to investigators, Christopher Jenkins, 26, has been charged with capital murder in connection with the death of his 7-week-old son. The incident reportedly took place in an apartment in Baytown in July 2025.
Police say the child was crying, and Jenkins became frustrated. As per the complaint, he allegedly threw the baby onto a bed with force, comparing the action to tossing a football. He later told investigators that the baby “bounced” and fell onto the floor.
Authorities further allege that after picking up the child, Jenkins shook him in an attempt to check if he was still alive. Sadly, the injuries proved fatal.
Emergency Response and Initial Claims
Emergency services were called after the baby was found unresponsive. When police and medics arrived, they found the infant had no pulse and was not breathing. He was immediately attended to, but he could not be saved.
Initially, Jenkins reportedly told police that he found his son unconscious while checking on him. At that time, the child’s mother was in a nearby apartment with her own mother. She later called emergency services after Jenkins informed her that something was wrong.
Confession and Investigation Details
During the investigation, Jenkins’ account of events changed multiple times. Police say he first claimed the baby’s injury was accidental. However, he later admitted to throwing the child in frustration due to excessive crying.
Investigators conducted a walkthrough at the apartment and asked Jenkins to demonstrate what happened using a special tool called a SUIDI doll, which is used in infant death investigations. During this demonstration, he reportedly showed how he threw the child and where the baby landed.
Authorities stated that there was a gap of around 15 minutes between the incident and the emergency call, which is also part of the ongoing investigation.
Medical Findings
An autopsy later confirmed that the infant died due to blunt force trauma to the head. This type of injury is often linked to severe impact or violent shaking, especially dangerous for newborns whose bodies are extremely fragile.
Witness Statements and Past Behaviour
Police also spoke to a neighbour who shared concerning observations. The neighbour said she had heard Jenkins yelling at the baby before, including telling the infant to stop crying in an aggressive manner.
She also described a previous incident where Jenkins handled the baby roughly while he was crying in a stroller. These statements have raised serious concerns about earlier behaviour leading up to the tragedy.
Legal Status
Jenkins has been arrested and is currently being held in Harris County Jail without bond. He is facing a capital murder charge, which is one of the most serious criminal charges in the United States.
