A fight early on Sunday morning on Bourbon Street in New Orleans turned into a shooting, though the victim didn’t realize he had been shot until several hours later, according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Bourbon Street. Police said the victim, a 42-year-old man, got into an altercation with another person. During the fight, the situation escalated when the other person pulled out a weapon and fired several shots.
At the time, the victim did not feel he had been struck by gunfire and refused medical treatment. The NOPD initially responded to the situation as an aggravated assault.
Victim Discovers Gunshot Wound Later
It wasn’t until later in the morning, around 11:40 a.m., that the victim started feeling pain in his knee. He went to the hospital for treatment, where medical staff discovered he had been shot.
Once the police were notified that the man had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound, the case was upgraded to an aggravated assault by shooting.
