A tragic road accident in Louisiana has claimed the life of an elderly woman and left three others injured. The incident has raised concerns about road safety at busy intersections as authorities continue their investigation.
What Happened in the Crash
The accident took place in Marrero at the intersection of Barataria Boulevard and Eighth Street just after noon on Friday.
According to officials, the crash involved two vehicles—a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Chevrolet Malibu. The Jeep was travelling south on Barataria Boulevard when it collided with the Malibu, which was attempting to cross the road.
Victim Identified
The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 86-year-old Josephine Melanson, a resident of Marrero.
She was a passenger in the Chevrolet Malibu and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Injuries Reported
Three other people were injured in the accident. This includes the driver of the Malibu, another passenger in the same vehicle, and the driver of the Jeep.
All three were taken to a nearby hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Ongoing Investigation
The crash is currently under investigation by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities have not issued any citations so far. Officials also confirmed that toxicology tests are being conducted as part of the investigation to determine if any substances were involved.
