A shocking incident in Arizona has led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man accused of stabbing his own mother while she slept inside their family home. Authorities say the attack happened early in the morning and left the woman critically injured. Prosecutors later revealed disturbing details in court, claiming the suspect had allegedly been thinking about killing his mother for weeks before the attack.
Arizona Man Arrested After Alleged Attack on Mother
Police identified the accused as George Randall, 25.
According to the Chandler Police Department, officers responded to reports of a stabbing at a residence located in the 2700 block of North Evergreen Street at around 4:30 a.m. on May 15.
When officers arrived at the home, they found a woman suffering from serious stab wounds.
Emergency responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities later arrested Randall and charged him with:
- Attempted first-degree homicide
- Aggravated assault
Victim Allegedly Stabbed While Sleeping
During Randall’s first court appearance, prosecutors shared details about the incident.
According to court statements, Randall allegedly stabbed his mother in the side of her neck while she was sleeping on the couch inside the home.
Officials said the woman lost a significant amount of blood and reportedly passed out because of her injuries.
Doctors later performed surgery, and authorities confirmed that her condition has now stabilized as she continues recovering.
Prosecutors Describe Attack as Unprovoked
Prosecutors described the incident as a completely unprovoked attack.
According to court proceedings, Randall allegedly told law enforcement officers that he had been thinking about killing his mother for several weeks.
Authorities also claimed he intentionally selected the area of the body he targeted in order to cause maximum damage.
The disturbing allegations raised serious concerns during the hearing.
Mental Health Concerns Raised in Court
During the hearing, prosecutors also mentioned concerns regarding Randall’s mental health.
Officials argued that he could potentially be dangerous to others if released from custody.
Taking those concerns into account, the judge approved the state’s request to set a $1 million cash-only bond.
Authorities confirmed Randall is expected to appear in court again later this month.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
Police said the investigation into the stabbing is still ongoing.
Officials have not yet released additional details regarding a possible motive or any prior incidents involving the family.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has also not publicly commented further on the case.
