A disturbing incident in Hillsboro, Missouri, has led to the arrest of 65-year-old Frank Forshee, who is accused of shooting a woman in a fit of anger over her dog barking. Forshee’s erratic behavior and threats had already raised concerns before the violent act, and he allegedly made chilling comments to investigators afterward.
Frank Forshee Faces Multiple Charges
Frank Forshee has been charged with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. These charges stem from an incident that occurred on Sunday in his home in Hillsboro, a town located around 40 miles southwest of St. Louis.
According to authorities, Forshee had been living with another man and the woman who was shot. The man living with them reported that Forshee had been using methamphetamine and exhibiting signs of mental health distress, acting erratically in the days leading up to the shooting. The day before the shooting, Forshee allegedly threatened the woman with a gun and fired a shot into the floor of their home.
Argument Over Dog Leads to Shooting
The situation escalated on Sunday when Forshee and the woman had an argument in the living room, which also served as her bedroom. Forshee reportedly became upset when the woman’s dog wouldn’t stop barking.
He threatened her with a small knife before retreating to his bedroom. When he returned, Forshee was armed with a .22 caliber revolver and fired a shot, hitting the woman in the abdomen while she was sitting on her bed with her dog.
The woman, along with the other man in the house, managed to escape and called 911. Deputies arrived at the scene and found the victim with a gunshot wound that entered her abdomen and exited through her left calf. She was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Forshee’s Threats and Fleeing the Scene
As investigators worked on the case, they discovered that Forshee had contacted a family member, making concerning statements about not wanting to go to prison and possibly harming himself. Negotiators were able to reach him by text, where Forshee allegedly claimed he would “make the news” and that law enforcement should come find him.
A neighbor reported seeing Forshee walking onto their property holding a firearm, which matched the description provided by witnesses. Forshee admitted to the neighbor that he had been holding the gun during the argument and that he had attempted to hit the dog, which led to the shot being discharged.
Investigation and Arrest
The residence was searched, and the crime scene evidence corroborated the statements from witnesses. Forshee reportedly fled the area following the shooting and was not arrested until Thursday. He is currently being held without bond, and his court appearance has yet to be scheduled.
