A teenage girl in Texas has been arrested for luring young men into traps so her boyfriend could attack and rob them, authorities say.
The Suspects
Alyssa Canul, 17, faces two counts of aggravated robbery and could face an additional charge of tampering with physical evidence, according to the city government of Universal City, Texas.
Canul allegedly acted with her boyfriend, 17-year-old Joseph Anthony Aguilar, who was arrested earlier. The pair recently moved to Universal City and are accused of targeting young men through online dating sites.
The Crimes
Authorities said Canul’s role was to lure young men on dating platforms. In one case, a teenage boy was invited to a park bench, where Aguilar allegedly attacked him and took his money.
In a second case, a 15-year-old boy was also lured to the same park bench. Canul allegedly guided him to Aguilar’s nearby apartment. As they approached, Aguilar reportedly made a loud noise and showed a gun. When the victim tried to escape, Aguilar shot him four times and robbed him.
The boy survived and reached a nearby coffee shop, where people called 911. He was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Evidence Against Canul
Investigators say they caught Canul speaking on the phone with Aguilar, discussing how she had disposed of the gun used in the robberies. Aguilar faces two aggravated robbery charges.
Arrest and Detention
Alyssa Canul was arrested on Friday and detained at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
