Orleans Parish officials announced Monday that Fat’s Car Wash in the 7th Ward has been seized following the discovery of a crack cocaine lab operating inside the business. The investigation, which involved multiple agencies, led to the arrest of four individuals tied to the drug trafficking operation.
The Discovery
According to Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams, a thorough investigation conducted by the Louisiana State Police uncovered illegal narcotics, firearms, and a secret laboratory used for manufacturing and distributing crack cocaine within the car wash.
The operation, which authorities say was disguised as a legitimate business, allegedly involved the owners and managers of Fat’s Car Wash in the production, packing, and sale of illegal drugs.
Location and Community Impact
The car wash, located at 2439 Saint Bernard Ave., is situated just across from St. Augustine High School’s new football practice field. Also in close proximity are Life of Christ Christian Academy and Magical Moments Learning Center, making the location particularly concerning to authorities.
District Attorney Williams emphasized the importance of the investigation, stating, “Not only is it illegal, but it is also plaguing our community. This was happening steps away — a football’s throw away — from where young men come every day to learn and grow and build their futures.”
He continued, “While good people are investing in the boys of this community, you have others pulling them down the dangerous path. And that is exactly why this became a top priority for every single agency that stands with me today.”
