An 18-day-old baby girl tragically died after falling from a residence in Westminster, London, leading to the arrest of a woman on suspicion of murder. The incident, which occurred on March 14, 2026, has prompted an ongoing investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Infant Dies After Falling from Westminster Residence
The fatal fall occurred at 7:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, when the baby fell from a residential property on Horseferry Road, located in central London’s Westminster neighborhood. Police were called to the scene following reports that the infant had fallen from a height.
The baby was immediately rushed to a major trauma center after receiving initial treatment at the scene from London Ambulance Service. Unfortunately, the baby was later pronounced dead at the hospital that same day.
Woman Arrested on Suspicion of Murder
A 43-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder, though her identity has not been made public. The woman remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
The Metropolitan Police referred to the incident as a “murder investigation” in their official release, and Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell is leading the inquiry. The police have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and contact authorities with information.
Investigation Focused on Domestic Context
Police have indicated that they believe the death occurred within a domestic setting. Detective Chief Inspector Foxwell stated, “At this stage, we believe the incident occurred within a domestic context, but we are appealing for anybody with information to come forward.”
“Our thoughts today are with the baby’s family,” she added, calling the death of an infant an “extremely tragic occurrence.”
The police are making urgent inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
Police Presence and Community Response
Following the tragic incident, a police cordon was set up around Great Peter Street near the scene, and forensic investigators were seen examining the area. Photos shared by the Daily Mail show a forensic investigator at the scene, and officers standing by police tape as they worked.
As of Sunday, March 15, the police cordon was lifted, and the investigation continued.
In a gesture of sympathy, flowers and a stuffed toy were left at the scene by members of the community.
