Backyard pool party in Edgard finishes in gunfire; 18-year-old arrested

A backyard pool party in Edgard took a violent turn on April 1, leaving a 14-year-old boy injured and an 18-year-old in custody. According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, the teen was shot in the leg during an incident that unfolded later in the evening.

Deputies Find Injured Teen Nearby

Authorities responded to a call around 8:22 p.m. on Central Avenue, where they found the injured boy after he had fled the scene and collapsed in a nearby yard. Deputies provided immediate medical assistance, including applying a tourniquet to control bleeding.

The teen was then transported by ambulance and airlifted to a children’s hospital. Officials confirmed he has since been treated and released.

Shooting Linked to Pool Party Dispute

Investigators say the incident began at a pool party on Castle Drive. The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Da’marcus Turley, allegedly chased the teen and shot him in a front yard. Authorities believe the situation escalated after Turley attempted to take a gun from the victim’s backpack, which was later determined to be a toy.

Arrest and Charges

Turley was arrested later that same night at his residence without any resistance. He has been charged with aggravated second-degree battery and armed robbery. According to officials, he is currently being held in the parish jail in LaPlace with a bond set at $115,000. Authorities also reminded that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Investigation Still Ongoing

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation remains active. Officials are urging anyone who may have information or video footage related to the incident to come forward and assist with the case. At this time, no further details about the motive have been released.
