A 62-year-old woman died after a crash involving her bicycle in New Orleans, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The crash occurred around 11:57 a.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Toulouse Street and North Claiborne Avenue in the Treme neighborhood.
Police said the woman was riding her bicycle and had stopped to wait for traffic to clear before crossing Claiborne Avenue. Authorities reported that a vehicle in the right-hand lane, traveling east on North Claiborne, stopped to let her cross. However, a second vehicle in the left lane did not stop because its view was blocked by the first vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the woman was declared dead at the location.
Officials confirmed that both drivers stayed at the scene. Investigators stated that the driver who struck the woman did not seem to be impaired or speeding, and no citations have been issued so far.
The woman’s identity and the official cause of death will be released by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office once the family has been notified.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
